Herod’s Confusion about Jesus

9:7 Now Herod ¹  the tetrarch ²  heard about everything that was happening, and he was thoroughly perplexed, ³  because some people were saying that John ⁴  had been raised from the dead,

14:14 Then ⁵  you will be blessed, ⁶  because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid ⁷  at the resurrection of the righteous.”

19:13 And he summoned ten of his slaves, ⁸  gave them ten minas, ⁹  and said to them, ‘Do business with these until I come back.’

[9:7]  ⁴ sn John refers to John the Baptist, whom Herod had beheaded (v. 9).

[14:14]  ⁵ tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate that this follows from the preceding action. Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation.

[14:14]  ⁶ sn You will be blessed. God notes and approves of such generosity.

[14:14]  ⁷ sn The passive verb will be repaid looks at God’s commendation.

[19:13]  ⁹ sn That is, one for each. A mina was a Greek monetary unit worth one hundred denarii or about four months’ wages for an average worker based on a six-day work week.
